Firewire has gained popularity due to its extremely high data transfer rate--rivaling that of SCSI. It is used with devices like digital movie cameras, CD burners, scanners, etc... It can support up to 63 devices at 200-400Mbps over a length of 4.5 meters (15 ft.) and is hot swappable. You can think of it as the bigger, more powerful brother to USB.
