Percussion instruments might qualify as humanity's earliest musical instruments- making sounds when a tree or rock was struck by something. The natural progression of the percussion instrument is the mimic of it using pure vocals. "Sometimes this "vocal" sounds smooth and beautiful like silk, and other times like a low groan echoing from the depths of a cave.
