49 key analog, FM, wavetable synth Clavia's latest technology lets you integrate digital samples in an ananlog environment! Massive waveform capabillities, filters and effects will generate sounds most definitely never heard before. Sound samplesOscillator Funk - virtual analog synths mixed with mellotron violin and loop samples. Multitrack recording.Synthesized Trumpet - the power of oscillator modulation and formant filter applied to a trumpet sample. Santur Baby - persian santur and accordion samples transformed into something completely different. Plus an analog lead. You might get the impression you are looking at a regular analog style synthesizer. Nothing could be more right - nothing could be more wrong. Based on a legacy of inventing virtual analog synthesizers for almost 15 years, Clavia takes the next generation of lead synthesizers to the next level. The Nord Wave gives you traditional analog sounds that interact and coexist with pretty much anything you want; by combining analog, FM-synthesis, wavetable and sampled waveforms - you can use literally any standard wave file - it is a standard sample player and an analog synthesizer - and so much more in between! The introduction of sample players in the mid eighties created a gap in the world of synthesizers - a gap that twenty years later only has grown further; the amount of voices and memory sizes are more important than the sound itself - as if the more dead samples you can play at one time would bring your sound more to life. The Nord Wave closes that gap, and brings digital samples to life by integrating them in an virtual analog environment. Does the best of two worlds sound too pretentious for you? Wait until you have heard the wave.WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUTBy having two oscillators capable of producing a vast array of sounds from classic analog waveforms (with sync), via FM-synthesis, wavetables, sampled waves (single cycle waveforms with attack) as well as noise and other miscellaneous waveforms to - yes - playback of sampled waveforms, the nord wave has an unprecedented pallet of sounds for you to use as foundation. You need a rich and full string quartet? No problem - just bring up the samples. A highly resonant screaming lead? Sure - virtual analog is there, but why not combine them - not just mix them together - but create an analog sound with the harmonic content of the sampled string quartet! With oscillator modulation you can transfer the character of one sound to the other - for instance a sampled string to a analog square - and by controlling the amount of modulation the effect can range from very subtle to heavily aggressive were the original sound is no longer recognized. Within moments you will experience sounds never heard before; sounds that will function as a great source of inspiration and lift your playing and sound design to new levels. DIGITAL SAMPLES IN AN ANALOG ENVIRONMENTThe sound of a resonant 24dB steep filter applied to a sampled sound brings it so much to life that some times that is all you need. But there are so many more items available to your samples - all elements of a analog synthesizer can be incorporated: amplifier and modulation envelopes, LFOs, filters as well as effects. Also some convenient sample modifications are available. By using alternative start points, you can loose the attack portion of the sample and use only the body of the sound for modulation.OSCILLATOR MODULATIONTwo types of oscillator modulation gives you different characteristics to your sound: Phase Modulation and Frequency Modulation. Very different results can be achieved depending on the combination of type of waveforms generated by the two oscillators, type of oscillator modulation, and amount of oscillator modulation.Using Phase Modulation, an analog triangle waveform will adopt much of the details of the modulating waveform and make an almost transparent, synthesized effect. An analog saw waveform will still sound hard when modulated, and wavetables are great for creating different variations in tonal character. Frequency Modulation has a more dramatic effect as it will create a wider harmonic content and preserve more of the character of the waveform being modulated. HIGH QUALITY SAMPLESTo us, quality supersedes quantity - great samples are not determined by their size in bytes, but rather by the level of preservation in detail and character. Further to producing our own top quality samples holding up to the highest Clavia standard, we have also teamed up with several sample houses and licensed some of the very best samples available, including Kirk Hunter, Sonic Reality as well as the complete Mellotron instrument library. The Clavia web site offers a large amount of top quality samples specially created for the nord wave - available free of charge. USER FRIENDLY TECHNOLOGYBy storing sample data in Flash Memory, existing samples can be replaced with new ones. Even the factory preset samples can be replaced.Clavias lossless compression algorithm allows for average 2 to 3 times data compression of your samples. Everything is done automatically and makes the nord wave samples extremely small in size, which means they are quick do download and easy to share or bring along without filling up your laptops hard drive. Flash Memory also means that samples are constantly available - no hard drive or other type of media is needed for storing samples during power off. Once the unit has powered up you have direct access to all samples by the turn of a knob. USE YOUR OWN SAMPLESNord Wave offers the unprecedented power to use any audio recording as a oscillator source in a virtual analog environment - simply import any standard wav-file to the Nord Wave Manager software and map it to a key, and you are ready to go!EASY TO USE MANAGERThe Nord Wave Manager, developed for OS X and Microsoft Windows, is designed to keep things fast and simple; backup and re-arrange programs and samples, transfer sample instrument files or map your own wav-files across the keyboard. It includes several features to speed up the normally tedious job of arranging and adjusting individual samples, including; auto-mapping, gain adjustment macros, start-, end- and loop point detectors as well as loop macros and randomizers. If you have a single wav-file with chromatic (or any other interval) recording of each note, you will be up and running within seconds!Keeping functionality in focus, it provides the visual tools needed to do the job as fast as possible with a zero-level of eye-candy. The nord wave manager will prove a powerful tool to get your samples to where the magic lies; in the virtual analog environment inside the nord wave. TWO SYNTHS IN ONETwo synths-in-one means that you can seamlessly switch between two sounds without cutting off any sustaining notes, or layering two sounds together to create a massive sound palette.Everything is easily controlled by the Slot A & B buttons, and to keep things simple - every parameter there is actually two of is printed against a gray background. EFFECTSThe effect section gives your sound the final touch - whether it is just a small amount of reverberation, a massive delay tap or a boost using the tube-style overdrive.5 different reverb algorithms are provided, from a small room to a large hall. The delay have both mono and stereo operation, and have tap-tempo function as well as selectable feedback amount. FILTER MANIAHigh quality resonant filters are one of the most important ingredients in sound creation. The nord wave incorporates a total of 6 different filter types of the highest quality. Ranging from standard low-, high- and band-pass filters, you also have a multi peak filter, comb filter as well as a format filter, creating vowel effects. Filter parameters can be modulated via the dedicated ADSR-envelope, velocity or any of the LFOs or Modulation Envelope. Using the Morph function you can even modulate the modulators - creating very dynamic and evolving effects.THE RETURN OF A LEGENDARY SOUNDExclusively available to the nord wave are once again the classic sounds of the Mellotron - the tape based sampling pioneer invented in the early sixties. When it comes to instruments having an impact on modern music evolvement, the Mellotron is possibly preceded only by the electric guitar.A tape-based electro-mechanical keyboard instrument was invented by Harry Chamberlin as early as in 1946, but it was not until 16 years later, when the Mellotron company adopted the technology that the instruments became commercially viable. The possibility to playback recorded sounds from a keyboard instrument had an large impact on the music scene in a time when the Beatles just had landed their first record contract. The nord wave comes shipped with all 68 instruments of the Mk I, Mk II, M300 and M400 Mellotrons. By sampling the sounds using fresh tape copies and a newly manufactured mellotron instrument - built using vintage components - the nord wave reproduces these sounds with all hisses and fizzes exactly as they were meant to be. MORPHINGClavias unique Morph function lets you alter the setting of virtually any sound related knob in real time via the modulation wheel, control pedal, note velocity or note number. You can have the filter open up as you strike a key harder. Have the modulation wheel change the amplifier envelope from pad- to pluck-style at the same time as the filter resonance is increased. Several Morph set-ups can be used simultaneously and lets you change your sound drastically as you play.Complex Morph scenarios are available, but setting them up could not be easier or more intuitive - simply hold the corresponding Morph controller button pressed down and tweak the parameters all you want. When operating the associated Morph controller, parameters will seamlessly change to their programmed position. CHORD FUNCTIONThe nord unique Chord functions lets you add any number of intervals to the notes you are playing. Add a single 5th note for a classic synthesizer effect, or a massive chord or even cluster - you decide! Simply hold the Chord button pressed down and play the intervals on the keyboard. Release the chord button and the intervals you just played will be added to any single note you play.STICK TO THE PITCHThe Clavia patented pitch stick gives you pitch and vibrato control similar to a guitar player. With a no-dead zone you can apply very subtle vibrator-like pitch changes, just as easy as drastic ones.IN THE RIGHT PLACEErgonomically fitted around your left hand are controls for pitch and modulation - naturally - but also Program Change-dial, Octave Shift-, Chord- and Panel & Keyboard Focus-buttons making it quick and easy to switch settings on the fly.BUILT FOR PERFORMANCEWith 25 years of experience of designing instruments to be used by professional musicians, we know the importance of making the technology completely transparent. When performing it is all about being in control of our sound. That is why we have a physical knob or button for every sound related parameter on the front panel. No menus or page buttons should be in the way to limit your expressiveness during a performance.
