In addition to this, the unit will operate as an quality AD/DA format converter, and versatile monitor mixer providing facilities for up to 12 channels of monitored signal! (1 x stereo digital with optional board). Many users will be glad to see the options provided for connectivity. 2 x Bal mic inputs with switchable phantom power, peak lights, and gain control can be found on the front of the unit (2 x inserts available on these channels). This allows conversion from any analog input channel to digital and likewise any digital signal to analog. The input mix functionality allows multiple inputs to mixed and converted to a digital stream simultaneously from any of the 10 analog inputs. A very handy format converter and level matching processor.You can use the IN5 to "take over" the job of converting from some older or outdated poor performing converters in your studio equipment. Got an old DAT machine with below average converters? No problem, just connect the IN5 via the S/PDIF connectors on the rear of the unit to your DAT S/PDIF, connect the analog outputs of the IN5 to your speakers or recording device, and you have instantly improved your AD/DA! Furthermore, analog level controls can now be controlled from the front of the SM IN5. Recording InterfaceThe IN5 really comes into its own when used in conjunction with a PC audio card or with a card featuring S/PDIF digital interfacing.The IN5 solves deploys a high-quality converter unit housed in an external device. Its signal is transmitted digitally and loss-free to and from the computer. The IN5's converters work with 24 bits and offer exceptional performance. Being a stand-alone device in a dedicated housing, it is immune to pick-up of stray computer based interference. By connecting the digital output of the IN5 to the digital input of your computer and the digital output of the computer to the digital input of the IN5 the unit serves as an outboard converter unit for your digital audio card. When using the IN5 in combination with your digital I/O card you will enjoy a quantum leap in the definition and clarity of your recordings.
