The Solo Digital Audio Recording System provides a variety of common functions required by the digital-audio musician: pre-amplification for microphones and low-level instruments (such as guitar, bass, etc.), line-level input controls, input mixing, monitoring, compatibility with popular recording/editing software and 24-bit/96kHz conversion of audio signals to/from the digital domain.

The SeaSound Solo features a pair of high quality, dual impedance universal pre-amplifiers with 65db of gain control. Optimal input impedance (1 kohm for microphones and 250 kohm for instruments) is selected automatically. The low level inputs include insert I/O jacks following the pre-amplifiers for insertion of processing units such as compressors or parametric equalizers, prior to mixing and digital recording. In addition, there are two line level inputs on separate phone jacks. All inputs are provided with signal activity/clip indicators for optimal recordings.

The four inputs are mixed into two channels using individual level and pan controls. The built-in mixer permits recording of live instruments or vocals, while monitoring MIDI drums or keyboards. The combined inputs are converted into two digital audio record channels. The digital audio playback data from the computer is converted into two line level feeds driving the separate phone jacks for main output and control room monitor. A headphone amplifier output with two jacks has been added for convenience on the front panel.

The Solo enables interactive monitoring of the record and playback signals with separate level controls. The monitor volume level control adds flexibility when driving an external monitoring system. The master volume controls levels when recording to analog. The Solo operates with all sample rates from 8kHz to 96kHz with 24-bit resolution in both record and playback modes. Peak Program meters, display the record or playback levels. The meters provide both peak-average and peak-hold display modes.

The innovative digital router/mixer on the Solo controller card allows it to perform digital audio format translation tasks, such as analog to S/PDIF, S/PDIF to analog, record to DAT, and sync to S/PDIF.

In addition to the digital audio functions, the Solo includes MIDI IN, MIDI THRU, and MIDI OUT ports as well as a transport control interface which operates with the optional SeaSound Footswitch Controller.

The Solo communicates with a Mac/PC via the PCI controller card, supplied with the Solo system.

In short, the SeaSound Solo is a complete digital audio recording solution which can virtually eliminate the need for an expensive mixing console when using any major digital audio/sequencing software application.
