Johann Sebastian Bach

WORKS
FOR VIOLIN

The renowned Bach-Gesellschaft, founded in 1850 to collect, edit and publish all the known works of J. S. Bach, devoted fifty years to its monumental task. It succeeded so well in tracking down Bach’s heritage, establishing authenticity, and transcribing accurate texts that its edition still remains one of the primary sources for Bach’s music. Unfortunately, it has always been a fantastically expen- sive publication, accessible only in the largest libraries.

This book reprints in full, directly from the Bach-Gesellschaft volumes, the following important works for the violin:

SONATAS AND PARTITAS FOR UNACCOMPANIED VIOLIN
Sonata No. I in G Minor Partita No. II in D Minor
Partita No. I in B Minor Sonata No. III in C Major
Sonata No. II in A Minor Partita No. III in E Major

SONATAS FOR VIOLIN AND CLAVIER
No. I in B Minor No. IV in C Minor
No. II in A Major No. V in F Minor
No. III in E Major No. VI in G Major

These popular works, basic to the classical violin repertoire, are frequently per- formed in concert, and numerous recordings are available. The music has been reproduced in a size large enough to be read easily, with large noteheads, wide margins (for written notes, fingerings, etc.), and on opaque paper with sturdy, sewn bindings. Pages lie flat and will not fall out. Designed as a playing edition, this volume is a necessary part of the library of every serious violinist, and a basic book in the library of performers, musicologists, students and music lovers.

Unabridged (1978) republication of selections from volume 9 (ca. 1860) and volume 27 (ca. 1879) of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Werke. Herausgegeben von der Bach-Gesellschaft zu Leipzig. Playing edition. ii + 158pp. 9 3/8 x 12¼. Paperbound

A DOVER EDITION DESIGNED FOR YEARS OF USE!

We have made every effort to make this the best book possible. Our paper is opaque, with minimal show-through; it will not discolor or become brittle with age. Pages are sewn in signatures, in the method traditionally-used for the best books, and will not drop out, as often happens with paperbacks held together with glue. Books open flat for easy reference. The binding will not crack or split. This is a permanent book.
