Listen IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO TEACH

Learn at your own pace. Change the speed, duration, and
level of difficulty at any time.
- Choose keys, scales or modes, and ranges for melodic and
interval exercises, and choose chord and inversion sets for
the chord exercises.
- Playback examples using the built-in Macintosh 4-voice
synthesizer or any MIDI keyboard or tone generator.
- Play your answers on the Piano or Guitar windows on the
screen, or with any MIDI-compatible keyboard, guitar, or
wind instrument.
- Choose one of five preset levels of difficulty or the user
changeable level of difficulty.
- The user manual contains: contents, tutorial, descriptions
of features and exercises, command reference, appendix
of musical examples, glossary of musical terms, and a
complete index.

Here you can see Listen in action:
- Click Start to start a new sequence of examples.
- Click Repeat to repeat the current example.
- Click Next to skip to the next example.
- The user has identified the first two notes correctly. The
third note was too high, denoted by the X above the line.
The fourth note remains unanswered.
- Answers are displayed in the notation window, and can be
played automatically in the Piano and Guitar windows by
using the Show Me The Answer command in the Options
menu.
- The Timer window shows how much time is left if you are
using the Beat-The-Timer option, otherwise you can
answer at your own pace.
- All chord examples can be optionally arpeggiated, and the
top or bottom note can be given as a hint.

- Triads (major, minor, augmented, diminished).
- Seventh chords of all types.
- Ninth, eleventh, and thirteenth chords of many types.

- Tuning up, another challenging exercise.
- Multiple-choice triad and seventh chord type identification.
- Multiple-choice interval identification.
- Multiple-choice triad and seventh chord inversion identification.
Use the Materials menu to change
your level of difficulty at any time.
- Choose any key for melodic and interval exercises.
- Choose one of 14 scales/modes, including harmonic and
melodic minor, whole tone, diminished, and chromatic, or
create your own scale.
- Choose the pitch range and starting note for melodic and
interval exercises, the base note for locked chords and the
range for floating chords.
- Choose the set of inversions to be used for triad and
seventh chord examples.
- Choose the sets of triads, seventh chords, ninth, eleventh,
and thirteenth chords for their respective exercises, to
focus your skill building.
- Choose how many tones and the pitch set for the random
atonal chord examples.
- Choose the melody length.
- Choose floating or locked chords.
- Choose optional too-high or too-low hints.
- Beat-The-Timer option lets you set the time limit before
Listen starts the next example.
Listen requires a Macintosh Plus or later,
two floppy drives or a hard disk, System 6.0.2
or later, and is System 7 compatible.
Listen is MIDI-compatible but MIDI equip-
