What You'll Need:
- A Macintosh computer with at least 2 megabytes of memory System Software 6.0.5 or later is required.
- A hard disk drive with at least 4.5 megabytes of free space.
- An Apple CD SCSI CDROM drive (or compatible).
- Audio playback equipment, which can range ftom headphones to desktop speakers up to the most sophisticated stereo system.
- HyperCard® 2.0 or greater. HyperCard 2.1 is included on the CD-ROM disc.
This Audio Notes program invites you to see what instruments took like, hear how they sound and learn how they're played. Graphics highlight who's playing when, white a full-length, illustrated analysis explains how Britten put the piece together:
- Tune in the Theme and Variations channel and click on the Variation button for musical notation of every melody Play the attached audio examples, which isolate the melodies on piano. Or sit back and enjoy the annotation as it plays in sync with the music.
- The Instruiment Catalog details the instruments of the orchestra with photos of how they are played, diagrams of what they look like and audio examples of how they sound. Listen to solos and special effects played by nearly 50 different instruments.
- Find out what instruments are playing while you listen to the Exploring the Music channel. This annotation points out musical signposts and lets you branch off into the Instrument Catalog.
- More than 500 audio examples - from seagulls to Stravinsky-offer additional information and entertainment.Test your musical ear in the Arcade, which quizzes you on the instruments of the orchestra.
- Pick up a baton and follow the diagrams and musical examples in A Conducting Lesson,
- You're the composer in the Orchestration Lab! You select which instruments will play then hear the result.
- The Timeline sums up music history with audio examples from Gregorian chant to jazz jinprovisation.
