Unique, not only due to Bill's inimitable style of drumming - heavy on the complex time signatures, and immaculately detailed snare work - but also because Packet 0f 3 is available in three formats: as audio data on CD, as sample data on CD-ROM, and as MIDI data on floppy disk.

Packet 0f 3 offers almost 70 minutes of unduplicated acoustic kit and Simmons electronic kit loops and single hit samples, encompassing full kit to tuned percussion. Acoustic items were meticulously recorded using a wide variety of sticks, beaters, time signatures, tempi, and sensibilities. Meanwhile the electronic grooves clearly demonstrate Bruford's unparalleled contribution to the expansion of the role of drummer in contemporary music.

But samples, however lovingly created, are still dead meat compared to a humble slice of MIDI data. With almost all grooves additionally available in Standard MIDI File form, users are free to experiment with sound substitution, tempo, playback mode etc., unheard of freedom compared to that offered by a 'normal' drum sample CD.

Categories include BASIC 4/4 ROCK, ODD METER (6/8,7/8, 12/8), LATIN FUNK, SWING, ACOUSTIC PERCUSSION, INDUSTRIAL, FUNK, ELECTRONIC PERCUSSlON, containing such grooves as "Laying Back in 4", "Espresso", and "Staggering in 7," each of which can contain up to seven separate loops plus fills.
