Massenet, Jules-MANON IN FULL SCORE
|
|
Extremely popular in his day, French composer Jules Massenet (1842-1912) composed numerous operas,
of which Manon is considered his masterpiece. The work premiered at the Operra-Comique in Paris in 1884, securing
Massenet's position as the leading French opera composer of his time. Offering an abundance of suave, sensuous
melody, and what d'Indy called a "discreet and semi-religious eroticism," this opera has been a staple of
the repertoire for over 100 years. The roles of Manon and Des Grieux have attracted many of the world's greatest
singers, and the opera is still frequently heard and recorded (Schwann lists 15 recordings of the complete
opera and selections). Music and opera lovers will delight in this attractive, inexpensive edition of the complete
full score, reproduced from an authoritative French edition.
