Delius, Frederjck-"BRIGG FAIR" AND OTHER ORCHESTRAL WORKS IN FULL SCORE
|
|
English composer Frederick Delius (1862-1934) ranks as one of the most important figures in the revival of
English music around the turn of the century. Largely uninfluenced by other composers, Delius composed in his
own distinctive, original idiom. Much of the music is nature-oriented and pictorial, but, as Grove's Dictionary
points out, "It is less a painting of nature itself than a study of the influence of nature upon the human soul...it is
the blending of the psychological with the pictorial element that gives to his music its peculiarly characteristic
quality." In this edition music lovers can study and enjoy the scores of six of the composer's most popular
orchestral works. In addition to the title piece, the Dover volume includes A Dance Rhapsody In a Summer Garden,
Summer Night on the River; The Song of the High Hills and the well-known On Hearing the First Cuckoo in
Spring. All have been carefully reproduced from authoritative early scores, ready to delight and inform anyone
interested in the unique music of Frederick Delius.
Original Dover compilation of six orchestral works reproduced from authoritative scores. Instrumentation.
