Quantum SC Speaker Cables |
All "SC" series cable incorporates a twisted pair design of inner conductors as to lower the inductance of the cable ,and therefore help to maintain the high frequency characteristics of the signal actually delivered to the speaker enclosure. As to further lower overall cable capacitance, the conductor insulators on the "SC" series cables are constructed of polyethylene as compared to the PVC insulators used on many of our competitors cables. While PVC is utilized due to it's low cost, it also generates more capacitance than the more expensive polyethylene compounds. This added capacitance in turn has a detrimental effect on the higher frequencies of the audio signal.
Inner conductors utilize finely stranded, oxygen-free high conductivity copper as to provide the best signal transmission qualities possible. The stranding utilized in the inner conductors of our "SC" series cable is typically much finer than that used by most of our competitors, with the total number of strands within the conductor generally numbering over twice the amount found in other brands. Although the cost of this type of stranding is considerably greater than that of the stranding found in other brands, it offers multiple benefits to the user. First, by increasing the total number of strands within the conductor, we take advantage of what is known as the "skin effect". The "skin effect" refers to the fact that the higher frequencies of audio signals typically travel on the outside of the strands within the conductors. Therefore, by ut~izing more strands within the individual conductors, the overall fidelity of the cable is improved. Another very noticeable benefit to the finer stranding is that the mechanical flexibility of the cable is improved.
As to take advantage of the more flexible conductor, the jacketing material chosen for the "SC" series cables is constructed from specially formulated compounds that offer exceptional flexibility while still offering the durability required of a professional quality speaker cable.
To assure optimum transmission of the audio signal as well as maximum durability, the "SC" series cables are terminated with G & H and Switchcraft brand phone plugs. All "SC" series cables are also available with optional MDP plugs should your application require them.
For MDP plug terminations, please add letter "M" suffix to model number for each MDP plug required. Example: model SCl8-25M = 25 ft.18 gauge cable with MDP on one end. Model SC18-25MM = same cable with MDP both ends. For cables with four conductor Neutrik Speakon connectors, please add "NS" suffix to model number, e.g. 5C14-50N5 = 50 ft. 14 gauge cable with 1/4" phone plug to NL4FC. If NL4FC connectors are required at both ends of cable, add "NSNS" suffix to model, e.g. SCl4-5ONSNS.
