Styles Disk #55 Modern Jazz

We've had lots of requests for Modern Jazz styles and you'll find them right here in this great collection. This set features Modern Jazz styles with a heavy emphasis on contemporary piano, bass, and drum techniques. Styles with names like Afro2Sw1, Elvin1, FastLat3, FreeJz1, KeithBal, KeithFst, KeithMed, NewJazz1, Ralpht1, PatM_Lat, PatM34, PatMFast, WlzModal, MJazWz1, and many more are all included.

Tempos range from slow ballads to up-tempo, in 4/4 and 3/4 meters, in even 8th, swing and Latin feels. For the more adventurous of you, we've even got a "Free Jazz" or Avant-Garde style. You'll find some great cymbal work and drum feels à la JackDeJ, PeterE and others, as well as "over-the-bar line" piano, bass, and drum approaches.

A great feature added in Band-in-a-Box 2006 allows instrument changes in the "b" section of tunes; some of these styles use this new feature. If you don't have Band-in-a-Box 2006, the styles will play fine on previous versions but the "instrument change in the 'b' section" feature will be unavailable. In most cases, the instrument changes are subtle and are used to brighten up or slightly change the "b" section. For example, an acoustic bass at "a" might change to a fretless bass at "b." Some styles like AFRO2SW1.STY or KEITHBAL.STY feature different rhythmic feels for each section.

To get the authentic sound for some of these styles, you should be aware that effects like reverb, chorus, and panning are not embedded in a Style (but they can be saved with a tune). Therefore, these settings should be set and saved by you with the tune from the main song page (Alt+F2). The demo tunes for these styles follow the same naming convention as the styles themselves. For example, the DEMO song for ELVIN1.STY is ELVIN1.MGU.
