GT50 Class A FET Condenser Mic

NEW YORK, NY (October 7, 2005) – Groove Tubes is introducing five new microphones at the 119th AES convention, according to company founder and CEO Aspen Pittman. In addition to their new ribbon mic (VELO 8 – SEE RELATED RELEASE), Groove Tubes is debuting the GT30, GT40, GT50 and GT60. Based on the company’s current line of popular condenser mics for studio and stage, the new models will be available through all authorized GT dealers in the US and its entire network of international distributors. This marks the first time in over five years that GT’s mic line has been in general distribution through a widespread dealer network.

“We’ve never been a company to sit back and rest on our laurels,” says Pittman. “The 30, 40, 50 and 60 Series mics have been used by some of the most revered names in the industry, from rock producers through film scorers. We’re happy to be able to take our mic designs and make them even more accessible to musicians and audio professionals in the US.”

Based on the existing GT33, GT44, GT55 and GT66, the new models feature GT’s powerful and unique design techniques. The GT30 and GT40 offer a mid-sized 19mm diameter diaphragm, while the GT50 and GT60 are large-diaphragm mics that offer the company’s larger 26mm capsule. The GT 30 and GT50 use Groove Tubes’ acclaimed FET electronics, while the GT40 and GT60 are powered by a GT6205-M vacuum tube.

The mid-sized GT30 and GT40 include Groove Tubes’ C1 cardioid capsule, but also provide an interchangeable capsule design that accommodates the company’s C2 (Hyper-Cardioid) and C3 (Omni) capsules. The gold-evaporated diaphragms of these models employ a very thin 6 micron thickness for excellent sensitivity and responsiveness. The mics also implement a custom-wound nickel core output transformer for complete isolation and low distortion.

The larger GT50 and GT60 are fixed cardioid-pattern mics that use Groove Tubes’ famous hand assembled, ultra-thin 3 micron gold evaporated diaphragm, with GT’s exclusive Disk Resonator design that naturally extends high frequencies to improve detail and depth on both vocal and instrument recordings.

The GT30, GT40, GT50 and GT60 mic models all include cases, with the FET models offering a rugged vinyl case and the tube models including a moisture-resistant aluminum case. The GT40 and GT60 tube models also provide shock mounts and hard mounts, as well as a custom power supply and cable.
